Want to do a bunch of holiday shopping in one day and check out the work of well over 100 local artists and craftspeople? You’ll want to be in the Superior Arts District, conveniently located near Asiatown in case all that shopping makes you hungry, on Sat 12/3.
The ArtCraft Building Holiday Sale is the granddaddy, as one of the first buildings in the area to offer studio space to artists. This is the 29th edition of their Open Studio and Holiday Sale event. More than 60 artists and artisans will be on site, some of them with studios in the building, some of them just set up their for the two day event, which runs Sat 12/3 @ 11AM-7PM and Sun 12/4 @ 11am-5pm.
There’ll be plenty of fine art including painting, drawing, photography and works I clay, metal and glass. But there’ll also be furniture and other home furnishing, jewelry, clothes and accessories, candles, perfume and body care products, and specialty food items. You’ll also find Friends of the Cleveland Kennel (will they be cruel enough to bring some of their City Dogs with those pleading faces and “adopt me” jackets?) and Catholic Charities.
Around the corner, in the Lake Affect Studio, you’ll find the Cleveland Bazaar — because where won’t you find them this season. Their huge annual two-day event is next weekend at 78th Street Studios, but the something extra at this one is the studios of the artists who have been moving into the building in the last couple of years, showing off what they’re working in when you visit them in their spaces. This one will be open from 10AM-6PM Saturday only.
Then walk a few blocks to the west where you’ll find the Tower Press Holiday Sale. A more intimate, familial atmosphere prevails here, with a group of 14 artist studios open for shopping and talking with artists about their work. They may not be numerous but they include some of the area’s most talented artists including painter/collagist Will Jean, photographers Michael Levy, photographer/mixed media artist Eric Rippert, painter JenMarie Zeleznak and filmmaker Rob Banks. Studios will be open from 10am-7pm Sat 12/3.
