The event is long sold out, but we’d like to make note of the fact that the Cleveland Arts Prize (CAP) has honored northeast Ohio’s homegrown rock star Michael Stanley with a special Lifetime Achievement Award, with a celebration taking place at the Beachland Ballroom Sat 5/4 that includes a VIP party, a silent auction of rock & roll memorabilia and an acoustic concert with Michael Stanley and Friends to benefit the Cleveland Arts Prize organization.

There isn’t much more to tell Cleveland fans about Michael’s 50-year recording and touring career, which began in the 60s with the band Silk, continued with a couple of solo albums in the early 70s which included the songs “Rosewood Bitters” and “Let’s Get the Show on the Road,” still fan favorites he performs regularly. In 1974, he formed the Michael Stanley Band, whose 13-year run may not have produced a national breakout hit among its 11 albums. But they worked steadily and at one point, held the attendance record at every major Cleveland venue from the Agora to the Front Row to Playhouse Square to Richfield Coliseum to Blossom Music Center, where they famously played four sold-out nights in 1982. Stanley continues to perform with his band the Resonators and to be a constant presence in Cleveland rockers’ lives with his afternoon drive shift on 98.5 WNCX.
