Fri 9/23 @ 6-8PM
Darius Steward is a new, rising star in the Cleveland visual arts scene. His skillful manipulation of space surrounding the black bodies he draws and paints offers a visceral sense of the tension they’re under and the pressures they face. He’s attracted attention with powerful shows in the last couple of years at the former William Busta Gallery and the Maria Neil Art Project.
Recently he’s been the 2016 artist in residence at Zygote Press. He’ll be showing the new body of work he created there in Scratching the Surface, which open at Zygote’s gallery with a reception on Fri 9/23 and remains on view through Sat 10/29.
