Fri 9/30 @ 7-10PM
Akron’s Gum-Dip Theatre isn’t a typical performers-onstage/audience-watching type of theater but rather a troupe that hosts alternative events: “story circles, unique happenings, and choose-what-you-pay performances.” It says it’s done performances in 42 different locations in the last six years, with a focus on marginalized communities.
Among other things, Gum-Dip hosts North Hill Final Fridays, which include live music and dance performances, food and family activities.
This month’s headliner is Angie Haze, a versatile musician whose music incorporates rock, pop, jazz, folk and global influences and whose presentation is colorful and eclectic. She performs from 8-9pm. She’ll be joined by Nepali musicians Druk Fusion Band (7-7:30pm) and Congolese dance troupe the Black Beanz (7:30-8pm).
The free community event takes place at People’s Park (760 Elma Street). Hideway Cookhouse will have a pop-up kitchen across the street until 8pm, featuring African, Caribbean and Black American cuisine. Attendees are welcome to bring their own beverages, including alcoholic.
