A few years back, Abbe Turner of Kent’s Lucky Penny Farm and Creamery got to thinking about those who were unable to enjoy the fruits of the area’s growing local farming community — those in transition from homelessness, victims of domestic violence, refugees and others trying to stabilize their living situations.
That’s when she started Recycle Pots and Pans to re-home gently used kitchenware from those whose cabinets are overflowing to those lacking the basics. They now work with 20 social service agencies in northeast and central Ohio. If you’ve got a surfeit of kitchen stuff and would like to lighten your load and help out, you can bring it to the Countryside Conservancy Farmers Market at Howe Meadow this Saturday morning. They’re looking for pots, pans, plates, tableware, measuring cups and small kitchen appliances.
