Six years ago, Dezare’ Foster, a former member of the Dancing Wheels ensemble, had the idea to do a ballet based on the 1986 fantasy film Labyrinth.

The concept was on the shelf for many years, but it’s finally a reality, and will have its world premiere at Cain Park’s Evans Amphitheater this week as Labyrinth: A Tribute.

“My inspiration comes directly from the 80s film with Jim Henson’s puppetry, featuring music by David Bowie,” says Foster. I watched this movie as a young child and as I grew up, David Bowie’s music has stayed close to my heart.”

Twelve company members, mixing wheelchair dancers and stand-up dancers in the way the company has become legendary for, will present scenes from the movie, whose moral they say is “We must take responsibility for our choices and with perseverance, friendship and love, we can overcome anything.”

Dancing Wheels will also perform Wall of Glass, choreographed by Lisa K. Lock, and an excerpt from Mark Tomasic’s Anomalies. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door.
