convergence-continuum Mounts Play About Post-Apocalyptic World

Fri 3/31-Sat 4/22 @ 8PM

Post-apocalyptic/science fiction-style disaster films/play/books were all the rage in the 50s and early 60s, as the Cold War scare swept through the U.S. They’ve continued to occupy a niche, especially in movies, where bleak, devastated landscapes make for great visuals.

Now Tremont’s little convergence-continuum theater kicks off its 2023 with a post-apocalyptic play updated for the 21st century. The 2019 play After the Blast by Zoe Kazan (yes, the actress/playwright is a “nepo baby” of sorts: her grandfather was the legendary director Elia Kazan) earned rave reviws in New York.

The synopsis explains, “Generations ago, humans retreated deep underground after an environmental disaster ruined the world above. Nature is now simulated through brain-implanted chips, and fertility is regulated to keep the surviving population in balance. Anna and Oliver want to have a baby, and their options are running out.”

The show opens at convergence-continuum’s home, The Liminis, on Friday March 31 and runs Thursday-Saturday @ 8pm through April 22. Get tickets and information at convergence-continuum.org or 216-687-0074.
