Cleveland native Greg Moore has built national reputation as a voting rights an civil rights activist. And one state sorely in need of his expertise and advocacy right now is Ohio, with its upcoming August 8 special election which asks what’s likely to be a tiny fraction of the state’s eligible voters to vote to strip Ohioans of one of the last ways they can exert any influence on our rigged state government. He’s president/CEO of the Ohio-based Promise of Democracy Foundation, which works to overcome barriers to voting which decrease election turnout in low-income and Black communities.

Last year he published a book called Beyond the Voting Rights Act: The Untold Story of the Struggle to Reform American’s Voter Registration Laws. In it he talks about how historical voter suppression laws have continued to disenfranchise certain Americans in the last 30 years. His bio tells us that he “reluctantly became involved within this movement as a student activist” in Cleveland in the ’80s. Sadly, the need for his advocacy and the work his organization does has dramatically escalated in Ohio in recent years.

Come hear him talk and get a signed copy of his book at Loganberry Books on Larchmere. It’s free and open to all.
