Two Cleveland presenters of classical concerts, the Cleveland Classical Guitar Society and the Cleveland Chamber Music Society, have teamed up to present a pair of Grammy-winning performers: guitarist Jason Vieaux and mezzo soprano Sasha Cooke.

Clevelanders are very familiar with Vieaux who, since 2001 has headed the classical guitar department at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He’s a regular performer at the annual Cleveland Classical Guitar Festival, and tours the world collaborating with performers such as the Escher Quartet; harpist Yolanda Kondonassis, accordion/bandoneon player Julien Labro and Cooke, as well as orchestras across the country. And since he’s apparently not busy enough, in 2012 he founded his Internet-based Jason Vieaux School of Classical Guitar.

His performance partner Sasha Cooke has performed with orchestras (including the Cleveland Orchestra), chamber ensembles and opera companies, performing both classic repertoire and contemporary pieces. The Houston-based singer also gives many solo recitals and performs at festivals across the country.

When Vieaux and Cooke perform at Plymouth Church in Shaker Heights, their program will include music ranging from Manuel de Falla’s Siete canciones populares españolas, to selections from Aaron Copland’s Old American Songs, to songs by Leonard Bernstein from the musicals Peter Pan, West Side Story and Wonderful Town. Vieaux will also perform some solo guitar works.

Tickets are $30, $28 for seniors, $5 for students.
