Local punk rock band Harvey Pekar has confused a lot of people with their name, which they “borrowed” from the Cleveland legendary Cleveland comics writer/world-class curmudgeon Harvey Pekar, who died in 2010, shortly before the band formed. And he was a jazz fan, not a punk rocker.
The five-piece hardcore-leaning band, including singer Nick Kratsas, guitarist Elliott Frank and Tyler Sickels, bassist Nick Schmitt and drummer Nate Kelly, is now ready to release the follow-up to its 2011 EP Thirty Ghosts and is 2013 debut album Upward, Not Northward.
It’s a vinyl album called The Astral We, and it’s coming out on Louisville, Kentucky-based punk label Little Heart Records. They’ll celebrate its release by headlining a big evening of local loud music at the Agora Ballroom, also featuring All Dinosaurs, Analog Phantom, Seeress and Cringe. They’re also billing the show as a “tour kick-off” although it’s unclear where else they’re going to be playing. The all-ages show is $5 in advance, $8 at the door.
