Cleveland artist Katy Richards has been using quarantine time productively. Her new show See Myself Something Different, at HEDGE Gallery, features 55 new oil paintings, which is a little intimidating!
These paintings depict close-ups of human figures and part of their bodies, inviting viewers to into an intimate relationship with her subjects.
“My paintings create an intimate space where viewers can closely look upon the body,” she says in her artist statement. “Zoomed in, the compositions present little distance between the viewer and the subject. Reveling in both vulnerability and confidence, the paintings are pro-physicality. The work speaks to our shared corporeality and the desire for connection with one another.”
There’s a preview showing of the exhibit on Wednesday August 10, with the official opening on Friday August 21. It will be on view through Friday October 2.
