Sat 3/19 @ 8PM

Sun 3/20 @ 4PM

The next series of concerts by Apollo’s Fire, Cleveland’s Baroque Orchestra, features music by two of their favorite composers, in “Virtuoso Bach & Vivaldi.”

The concerts will focus on “the virtuosic nature of baroque instrumental solos.” Cellists René Schiffer and Mimé Yamahiro Brinkmann will star in Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Cellos, while the composers Concerto in A Minor for Two Violins will give Olivier Brault and Susanna Perry Gilmore their time in the spotlight. The program will also feature Brandenburg Concerto no. 3 and selections from the Orchestral Suite no. 3 in D. And on March 18 and 22 only, violinist Francisco Fullana, a former artist-in-residence with Apollo’s Fire, returns to joins the orchestra for Bach’s Violin Concerto in D Minor. The group’s founder and artistic director Jeannette Sorrell will be directing the program and playing harpsichord.

The local performances come in the middle of the ensemble’s spring tour, which is taking them to Virginia, Massachusetts, Troy, NY, and Carnegie Hall (which they previously sold out in 2018.). The concert is also available digitally.

They perform at First Baptist Church in Shaker Heights on Friday March 18; at Cleveland Institute of Music’s Kulas Hall on Saturday March 19; at Rocky River Presbyterian Church on Sunday March 20; and at the Bath Church UCC on Tuesday March 22. Violinist Andrew Fouts will give a pre-concert talk an hour prior to each performance.
