The next show at the Yards Project at Worthington Yards is called Sage Wisdom, which purports to represent area artists still active past the age of 65. The biggest surprise is that it only includes eight artists, a smaller-than-usual cohort for this gallery’s group shows, since there are so many active and acclaimed artists in northeast Ohio working into their later years. The gallery’s promotion for the show references how Impressionist Claude Monet, who lived to be 86, continued painting for his entire life. But this isn’t rare for artists driven by a passion to create.
“Artists over 65 possess a freedom to make their own artistic choices at the same time their creativity can also be constrained or reimagining by other things like limited mobility and changes in their health,” says the gallery. “The work exhibited celebrates the artists shifts and changes created in their earlier artistic developments from decades ago but also includes new work made for the show.”
Artists included are Fran Belkin, David Buttram, Héctor Castellanos Lara, Don Harvey, John Saile, Patricia Zinsmeister Parker, Susan Squires and Dan Rothenfeld. The show opens with a free public reception Thursday March 8 @ 5:30-8:30pm. Get more info here.
