Sat 12/21 @ 6PM
The goal of The Music Settlement’s Signature Series is to embody its mission of bringing together people of all types to use music and the arts “to learn, create, inspire and heal.”
Its popular Winter Solstice concert is dedicated to the movements of the heavens. They point out that “While we live in a world of great diversity, there is tremendous comfort to be found in the fact that everyone on this planet works, plays and sleeps under the same sky — the Winter Solstice unites us all.”
The music will be provided to an ensemble of TMS cellists called Celli!, led by cello faculty member Ida Mercer. The 60-minute program will feature classical, jazz and contemporary cello pieces, accompanied by film footage of outer space, the surface of the moon and views of Earth. One special piece is Heitor Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras for cello octet and soprano, which will feature soprano Natasha Simmons.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for kids.
