Very soon, the northeast Ohio farmers market season will be in full swing, with more locally grown and raised foods arriving from area farms each week.
This week, the Countryside outdoor market in Cuyahoga Valley National Park kicks off its 16th season in the bucolic setting of Howe Meadow. There nearly 75 vendors, including a dozen new to the market, will be set up each week from 9am-noon, with meat, cheese, eggs, fruits and vegetables, grains, honey and syrup, value-added products such as sauces, seasonings and mixers, and handcrafted gift-type items
Countryside’s festival market also features live music and cooking demonstrations each week and, starting 6/8, special children’s activities. Dogs are invited to the market during “Yappy Hour” — 11am-noon. And on opening day, in honor of Earth Day you can drop off your food scraps to be composted for free.
