Lorain County’s Riverdog Retreat has announced the date and ticket information for the first concert of what promises to be a busy summer season. It kicks off on Friday May 28 with the David Mayfield Bluegrass Parade, fronted by the versatile Kent native, guitarist/ mandolinist/vocalist Mayfield, who’s earned national respect among his musician peers. Joining him for some progressive bluegrass will be two-time National Bluegrass Banjo Champion Steven Moore of Colorado, northeast Ohio fiddler/vocalist Christine King, and bassist/vocalist Andrew Bonnis.
Why are we telling you this now? Last summer, when Riverdog announced it was moving its usual barn concerts out to the meadow and limiting crowd size for social distancing purposes, music fans quickly snapped up every available ticket to every show, despite the schedule mostly featuring familiar local artists, since hardly anyone was touring.
This summer, many artists will be hitting the road again, and Riverdog has already released a tantalizing list of shows to expect later this summer. They include such Riverdog favorites as Nora Jane Struthers & Joe Overton, The Rough and Tumble, The Howlin’ Brothers, The Way Down Wanderers, The Honey Dewdrops, April Verch and Dave Boutette & Kristi Davis. And once the dates are announced and tickets go on sale, they’ll move fast, despite the venue increasing the seating in the meadow.
“All shows in 2020 sold out and we are expecting even greater demand this summer as folks get vaccinated,” they say. “We recommend booking as early as possible to guarantee seats.”
Tickets for the David Mayfield Bluegrass Parade are $22 and are available only by prepaid reservation. Go here to make your reservation and choose your seating preference: table & chairs under the canopy, table& chairs outside the canopy, or the open zone in back or around the firepit — bring your own chairs or borrow some from them.
