Sat 3/11-Sun 3/26
Talespinner Children’s Theatre is back onstage after a long pandemic break, and for their next production, they’re celebrating ten years of shows by welcoming back a previous production, Hook and Smee, written by Cleveland playwright T. Paul Lowry. It’s one of those “origin story” type things a la Wicked, which explains how Captain Hook and Smee met and how they came to lead their band of pirates against Peter Pan and his crew.
“This show is the perfect balance of silly, side splitting comedy and the tale of a potent friendship,” says the play’s director Ren Twardzik. “Even within the fantastical world of fairies and magic, a relatable tale of how kindness and friendship can change the course of our lives emerges. While James Hook may feel like an unlikely hero, Hook and Smeewill have you rooting for him all the way.”
The play is suited for anyone ages 6 and up (even adults!), running kid-friendly hours: Saturdays @ 1 and 4pm and Sundays @ 3pm. The March 26 performance will be ASL-interpreted and open captions will be available March 18 and 26. All tickets are pay what you choose. It takes place in Reinberger Auditorium, Talespinner’s last season there before moving to its new space.
