Painter Catherine Lentini is a northern California native, but she got her MFa at Kent State University and she’s now based in Cleveland’s Gordon Square neighborhood. Her geometric abstract paintings reflect her interest in both mathematics and visual art. “Her dynamic patterned paintings pulsate with energy and jewel-like colors, in shapes recalling the phone screens and monitors that are present in our daily lives,” says Cleveland’s Abattoir Gallery which is currently hosting a solo show of her work. Her work was also part of a recent show on geometric abstraction in Cleveland at Artists Archives of the Western Reserve.
The Abattoir exhibition is part of its new partnership with the Quarter Apartments in Ohio City’s Hingetown neighborhood. There they plan to showcase emerging Cleveland artists as well as artists from around the country. It’s the second location for the gallery, whose first space is in the Hildebrandt Building in the Clark-Fulton neighborhood.
This Sunday, Lentini will be in the gallery from 2:30-4:30, doing an artist talk at 3pm. It’s free and open to all. The show runs through the end of March.
