Muamin Collective has been making their smart, skillful progressive hip-hop music for about a decade and a half now. Rappers ZION/Swagger Vince/j-Quills and aLive/Steezer Wonder often perform their pensive, jazz-inflected with a full live band adding depth and nuance to a genre that too often has devolved into idle boasts over flat, repetitive beats. The group has produced and released a lot of music in their years together, including last year’s full-length album The Hues Brothers.
The group is back again to headline its Red Black & Green Christmas show at the Grog Shop. The diverse lineup includes five-man hiphop collective Tribe Untitled, one-man post/punk indie rock project Obnox (Lamont “Bim” Thomas), soul singer Ngina Fayola, Opus, Nature and DJ Candi Fresca.
Tickets are $5 in advance, $12 day of show, plus $2 for under 21.
