The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Cleveland in Shaker Heights regularly hosts forums about current civic affairs that are of interest to the entire community, which is welcome to attend, regardless of whether you belong to the church, another church or no church at all — Unitarian Universalists welcome all!
This week’s forum looks at the shaky state of our democracy since the arrival of Donald Trump into politics. Called “Constitutional Crisis, Insurrection or Democracy …in 2024,” it will feature a couple of speakers who study the state of our government for a living: Jonathan Entin, Case Western Reserve law and political professor emeritus, and Dr. Cherie Strachan, director of the University of Akron’s Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics.
Topics covered include how the January 6, 2021 insurrection could impact our 2024 elections, including whether the 14thAmendment to the Constitution which bars those who have engaged in insurrection from holding office could be used in any state to keep Donald Trump off their 2024 ballot, something many have advocated for. It will also look at how lies about the economy, reproductive rights, gun safety and the environment drive violence, terrorist attacks and election results.
The forum is free and open to all. Get more information and register to attend in person or by Zoom here.
