Memorial for Artist/Educator Tina Cassara Set for August 25

Sun 8/25 @ 5-7PM

On June 17, we received the heartbreaking news that artist/educator Tina Cassara passed away at age 75 a few months after suffering a traumatic head injury. She was married to filmmaker/photographer/journalist Bruce Checefsky who writes about arts and culture for CoolCleveland.com. Bruce has shared the story of his battle to get proper care for his wife following her injury which you can read here.

The outpouring of love, grief and sympathy from people in the arts community has been massive. Tina was known for her distinctive textile-based work, her explorations of the American labor movement, the inspiration and encouragement she provided her students at Cleveland Institute of Art where she taught for almost four decades, her activism and idealism. You can read more about her here.

There will be a memorial honoring her life, taking place at Praxis Fiber Workshop in the Waterloo Arts District on Sunday August 25 @ 5-7pm, with her artwork on display. All are welcome. Instead of flowers, donations to Praxis Fiber Workshop to support an artist scholarship would be welcome.
