Akron Soul Train opens two new shows this week. One of them is dedicated to the people who keep its program going for providing residencies to artists of all types for short-term projects: its members. The AST Members’ how will give them a chance to showcase their own creativity. An you might be inspired to become a member; join by June 29 and get an invitation to a private members’ meet-and-greet.
Then in the CAPsoul Gallery, AST member, painter Nick Lee, a 2021 Kent State graduation, will be showing his work in A Ripple in My Reflection, featuring self-portraiture that reflects on post-COVID racial disparities and the threats faced by minorities in the U.S. including Asian-Americans such as himself. “Personal, eye-opening, and centered around cultural empathy, the exhibit asks its audience to experience the reflection of another” says the show’s promotion.
Both shows go on view on Wednesday June and remain on view through Saturday July 22. On Friday June 23, there’ll be a free public reception.
