Sat 7/14-Fri 7/20
Kicking off this week at Oberlin College is the 9th annual Thomas and Evon Cooper International Competition, an unusual competition that alternates between pianists and violinists. This year it features 31 pianists ages 14-18 from seven different countries, competing for a share of the $40,000 prize, including a $20,000 first prize.
Starting Sat 7/14 there will be five days of free performances so you can scope out all this young talent. The concerts take place at Warner Concert Hall.
Then on Fri 7/20 @ 7:30pm, the three finalists perform concertos at Severance Hall with the Cleveland Orchestra, conducted by Jahja Ling. No pressure there! Tickets are $13 and up, and those under 18 are admitted free with a paying adult.
