The monthly Creative Mornings CLE are part of an international network of these monthly speaker/breakfast events. Each month, the parent group picks a theme, and the local organizations tailor it to fit their own area.
This month’s theme is Silence, and appropriately, the speaker is William Morgan, who is artistic director of SignStage, a theater program of the Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing at the Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center. Morgan is a playwright whose specialty is adapting family kids’ stories into versions with deaf characters dealing with their specific issues. He’ll talk about how so much can be communicated without sound.
“American Sign Language is an unspoken language but there’s a very unique relationship between silence and aound,” he says. “With Sign Language, you’ll see things you’ve never heard.”
The traveling event, which takes place this month at the Grog Shop, also features live music, local designers, and 3-second “Espresso Shot” pitches for things community members are working on. (People who would like to do one should email omg@thatsgreyt.com. Limited slots are available.) Breakfast and coffee are included with the free event.
RSVP starting at 9am Mon 12/16 at creativemornings.com/cities/cle.
