Cleveland Public Theatre, which doesn’t usually do a summer season, is celebrating the reopening of everything by — doing a summer season. Most of its free productions are taking place at an outdoor stage on its property, but it’s also going to be doing performances at the Cleveland Cultural Gardens’ recently dedicated Centennial Peace Plaza on MLK Boulevard in Rockefeller Park.
They’ll be performing their workshop production of Panther Women: An Army for the Liberation, which also has two more performances at CPT itself on Thursday July 8 and Friday July 9. Written and directed by CPT’s India Nicole Burton. It tells the story of three women who were active in the Black Panther Party, using them as a prism to look at the experiences of Black women in America and in the Black Liberation Movement. The performances are free.
They’re part of Cleveland Cultural Gardens’ World on Stage series of multicultural music, dance, spoken word and theater at the Centennial Peace Plaza.
