Soprano Amanda Powell is well known to area audiences from her many performances with Apollo’s Fire where she’s sung everything from opera to art song to Appalachian-based music in its popular crossover programs. She’s had formal education in both opera and jazz, and sings pop, folk and world music as well.
She’ll be joining with a quartet of the area’s finest jazz musicians for “Songs of the Season” at the Bop Stop. Powell will be joined by sax player Howie Smith, pianist Theron Brown, bassist Dave Morgan and drummer Jim Rupp as they give their own distinctive twist to a set of seasonal tunes from around the world. You can even put down your glass of wine and sing along! Admission is $15.
