Two Local Artists Show Photo-Based Print Work at HEDGE Gallery

Wed 3/17 @ 6-8PM

Fri 3/19 @ 5-8PM

For the past three years, HEDGE Gallery has mounted an exhibition that focuses on printmaking. It’s continuing that tradition by featuring two artists whose work for this show combines photography, printmaking and collage.

The show, Evidence of Existence, comprises work by Amber Ford and Karen Beckwith. Their work takes off from images of manmade remnants in the environment: old signs, graffiti, abandoned items, debris, and adds layers of complexity with screen printing and collage.

Ford starts with digital photos taken in New Orleans and Los Angeles, which examine the relationships between bodies and their surroundings. Her new work collages black-and-white found photos of Black people, combined with color images from magazines to create layers of time as well. Beckwith also starts with her travels, both in Taiwan and her hometown of Corry, Pennsylvania and turns the images into screen prints.

The show opens with a preview on Wednesday March 17 @ 6-8pm, with an opening reception Friday March 19 @ 5-8pm during Third Friday. The show will be on view through May 7.
