Pianist/composer Jim Brickman graduated from Shaker Heights High School and studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music and Case Western Reserve University before heading out to Los Angeles.

There he built a successful career as a composer for commercials. But it was when he signed with new age label Windham Hill in the mid ’90s that began releasing albums of his lush piano pop. He broke out of the new age market and crossed over to pop by enlisting the services of pop, country, and soul singers such as Donny Osmond, Martina McBride, Johnny Mathis, and his frequent collaborator and former Shaker Heights High classmate Anne Cochran to add vocals to his romantic ballads.

Christmas shows are his forte and he does a seasonal tour every year, always making his hometown a stop. This year his “Comfort and Joy” tour will bring him to Severance Hall where he’ll be joined by Cochran of course, along with vocalists John Trones and Kris Allen and electric violinist Tracy Silverman, another regular collaborator.

Tickets are $35-$75.
