Roots/Bluegrass/Jazz Supergroup Mr. Sun Performs at Riverdog Barn

Thu 10/13 @ 7:30PM

The members of the acoustic bluegrass/folk/jazz/old-time quartet Mr. Sun are no novices. The supergroup was founded by Darol Anger, now 69 and professor emeritus at Berklee College of Music, who was a founding member of the David Grisman Quintet at age 21; founded the Turtle Island String Quartet, Montreux, Psychograss, Fiddlers 4 and Republic of Strings, among others; and has released a lengthy list of solo albums. He’s worked with every major name in the field including Bela Fleck, Tony Trishcka, Chris Thile, Stephane Grapelli and Mark O’Connor.

The other three Mr. Sun members are no slouches either. Mandolinist/vocalist Joe K. Walsh is a strings professor at Berklee who performed with bluegrass’s Gibson Brothers before becoming a solo artist and songwriter. Guitarist Grant Gordy is also a David Grisman alumnus, solo artist and educator, one of roots music’s rising young players. And Scottish bassist Aidan O’Donnell has backed many modern jazz stars.

Together they recently released a mostly instrumental album called Extrovert that showcases their high-level chops. They’ll be at Riverdog Barn in Lorain County who say “Good grief…don’t miss this show!”

Tickets are $22; get them here. Doors open at 6pm for the 7:30 show. Bring your picnic basket and cooler and just hang out to enjoy the autumn colors out in the country.
