Global Table Invites People to Share Their Culture’s Cuisine at a Potluck at the Cleveland Hostel

Doesn’t it feel like Cleveland is giving the big middle finger to Donald Trump these das with the glut of events devoted to exploring its history of immigration and celebrating its immigrants and refugees?

One of the city’s rapidly growing — and diversifying — neighborhoods is Ohio City where, walking through the West Side Market, you might hear a dozen different languages spoken. The Ohio City Farm includes a section worked by Refugee Response, which teaches refugees who might have been farmers in their native land, the ins and outs of farming in a new climate.

Food is often one of people’s first introductions to other cultures, when they try out a restaurant of a different ethnicity — something there’s been more and more opportunity to do in Cleveland. Now the Cleveland Hostel on W. 25th is giving people a chance to sample each other’s native foods in a casual setting when it hosts the Global Table, a community potluck to celebrate the area’s diverse cultures — and cuisines. It’s inviting guests to bring a dish representative of their own culture. It’s free and open to all.
