The Human Rights Campaign, founded in 1980, once had a reputation for being one of the more conservative LBGTQ+ advocacy groups, representing mostly for white gay men. It took a while before it dipped its toe into transgender advocacy. But that’s changed, rendering criticisms that it’s an arm of the Democratic Party moot now that demonizing trans people has become a de facto plank in the GOP’s platform.
If you’re disgusted by the way the Ohio legislature would rather attack trans people than deal seriously with issues such as education, health care, housing, food insecurity, transportation, the opioid crisis etc or how it’s failed to pass an LGBTQ+ equal right bill despite more than a decade of work by champions such as state senator Nickie Antonio, come out and support HRC Cleveland and have a fun evening as well at its annual bowling event.
It takes place at Spins Bowl in Independence (5619 Brecksville Road). VIPs can come early for some food and an extra half hour of bowling; all guests can bowl from 7:30-9:30pm. Bring friends! Show our legislators we didn’t send them to Columbus to prevent anyone from enjoying the same rights as everyone else.
