The long-running Happy Dog Takes on the World series, a collaboration between the City Club and the Gordon Square music venue where it takes place, has shifted its attention from foreign affairs to a variety of other current affairs topics.
This week it’ll go hyper-local with “Happy Dog Takes on Participatory Budgeting CLE.” What’s that you say? It’s when local residents take part in deciding how public money will be spent in their community. It began in Brazil in 1989 and spread rapidly, with more than 3,000 mostly municipal processes in place, including in Cleveland.
You can learn more about whether and how this process is effective and how you can join this grassroots effort to make funding more equitable and transparent in a conversation led by Erika Anthony, Executive Director of Cleveland VOTES. Panelists include Cleveland councilwoman and former state legislator Stephanie Howse; Michelle Jackson of PB CLE; and Kenny Medrano, former director of participatory budgeting in district 26, New York City.
The event is free and open to all, no registration required. It will also be livestreamed at the City Club’s website. And you can tweet questions to @TheCityClub or text 330-541-5794.
