If folk/bluegrass/roots/Americana bands, especially of the acoustic variety, are your thing, Riverdog Barn in Oberlin is your place. Although its season is starting to wind down (it’s got shows booked in the barn through late October when you’ll probably want to bring a sweater), it’s still got some gems for fans of down-home music.
It’s next is Southern California ensemble The Riverside, founded — as so many such groups are — by a husband-and-wife duo, songwriter/guitarist Jacob Jeanson and mandolin player/harmony vocalist Lorien Jeanson. That pair has remained the core of the quartet through lineup changes, as they’ve released four albums and an EP since their founding in 2012.
They cite classic soft rockers such as the Eagles and Crosby Stills Nash and Young as influences, particularly on their heavy reliance on harmony vocals. They should be enhanced by Riverdog’s woodsy environment.
As usual, you’re welcome to bring a picnic basket and cooler. To reserve your spot, go here.
