Collectors Talk About Their African-American Art on View at Akron Art Museum

Beverly Buchanan’s “Pink Windows Are Lucky”

Thu 2/29 @ 6:30-7:30PM

Through March 24, the Akron Art Museum is featuring an exhibit called RETOLD: African-American Art & Folklore, comprising work from the collection of Georgia-based collectors Wes and Missy Cochran. It focuses on four themes — Remembering, Religion, Racialization and Resistance — through the work of more than 40 artists who reflect on aspects of Black life and culture in America, from the oppression African Americans faced (and still face) to the rich lives they’ve created.

Join the Cochrans and the exhibit’s curator Dr. Tameka Wellington at the museum for an introduction in the auditorium followed by a walk through the galleries as the Cochrans share their own thoughts and feelings, and the stories behind their acquisition of these works. The program is free but you should register here.
