A week before Election Day, Greater Cleveland Congregations and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District organized a celebratory event at downtown’s Trinity Cathedral for “voting virgins” — 18-year-old high school seniors who were voting for the first time. About 100 were expected; 150 arrives, many accompanied by younger classmates to cheer them on and hopefully get psyched about their own future voting. The group, along with many teachers and principals, marched the two blocks to the board of elections, brandishing signs and noisemakers, before returning to the cathedral for food and a dance party.
