Like virtually every other major festival this summer, the 41st annual Tri-C Jazzfest isn’t happening in its usual format, with ticketed concerts going on in various Playhouse Square theaters, and a free party going on outside with a big outdoor stage, performances by local and student groups, food, chef demos, vendors, hands-on art activities and dancing under the giant chandelier. Fingers crossed, it’ll all be back next year.
But for this year, JazzFest will be coming to your through your computer and any dancing you do with be in your living room or on your patio. For three days, more than a dozen local acts will play in both live and pe-recorded performances, interspersed with short conversations with two of jazz’s top bass players: John Clayton and Christian McBride.
“The goal is to put the depth and scope of Tri-C JazzFest on display while highlighting the festival’s powerful influence on the Northeast Ohio jazz scene and impact on Cuyahoga Community College creative arts students,” says Tri-C’s press release.
Among the artists featured are Chris Coles’ Gleam, Dan Bruce’s :beta collective, Dan Wilson Trio, Dominick Farinacci’s Rhapsody in Blue: Revisited, the Eddie Baccus Sr. Quartet, Evelyn Wright Quartet, FORECAST, Hubb’s Groove, Jackie Warren with Johnny Cochran and Bobby Selvaggio, Joe Hunter with Chris Burge, Dominick Farinacci and Evelyn Wright, Lafayette Carthon, Sammy DeLeon’s Latin Jazz Sextet, Tri-C’s Spirit of the Groove, Vanessa Rubin and Walter Barnes Jr. & Friends.
