If you’re headed to 78th Street Studios Third Friday this week, get yourself all the way to the top of the building and all the way to the back of the third floor, where the Popeye Gallery is in residence at Survival Kit Galleries. There you won’t always see the most mature and polished art but you’ll see art brimming with the energy and inquisitiveness appropriate to very young artists.
This month’s new show is a one-night only event featuring the work of three recent Cleveland Institute of Art graduates: Abigail Jo Clark, Celena Grossman and Suzanne Head.
“In an effort to recognize some of the talent in our schools we have elected to choose young artists who create and practice in multiple disciplinary backgrounds,“ says the gallery. So each of these artists practices in a variety of media: Clark is a printmaker, illustrator, media and clothing design; Grossman is an abstract painter and collage artist; and Head is an illustrator, glass artist and sculpture. Their work won’t be familiar to you, but you might see something you love.
