Now in its fourth year, the Heights Music Hop is growing by leaps and bounds. From less than two dozen acts in a handful of Lee Road venues its initial year, 2013, it’s now taking place over two nights in two different Cleveland Heights business districts with some 70 musical acts participating in 28 venues.

The action will be in the Cedar Fairmount district on Friday, moving over to Cedar Lee on Saturday with bands performing in clubs, restaurants and shops throughout both areas.

The musical diversity is greater than ever as well, with classical performers joining jazz artists, singer-songwriters, indie rock bands, Americana acts, DJs, blues performers and even a barbershop quartet. And the Sugar Pie Family Band will host a hands-on family music workshop at Cedar Fairmount’s Luna Bakery on Friday at 6pm and the Lee Road Library Saturday at 4pm.

Since the event is free, it needs to raise money and it’s doing so in a couple of ways. On Friday it’s holding a benefit at Nighttown with Sammy DeLeon y Su Orquesta playing for dancing with a cash bar, raffles and a silent auction. Tickets are $40 and it’s at 9pm, so you can catch some other music out on the street first.

The Hop will also be selling raffle tickets at various locations throughout the event for prize packages worth up to $2,500. You can also buy them online here where you can also buy tickets for the benefit.
