NewNow 2022 is the latest iteration of the biennial juried regional art show sponsored by the Artists Archives of the Western Reserve with Cuyahoga Community College.
This year’s juror was Atlanta-based Dr. Amalia K. Amaki, photographer, curator, historian, writer, journalist and former instructor at Spelman and Morehouse colleges, who selected work by 68 artists, both estalbished and emerging, whose work “takes the pulse of the current artistic climate, and reflects the experience of living in Northeast Ohio during this pivotal moment in history,” in a variety of mediums, styles and images.
“The seventy-three works in this regional invitational address numerous aspects of the systems, trends, events, sensibilities, and other overriding factors which contribute to the definition of today’s society,” says Dr. Amaki. “From the mundane beauty of uneventful nature scenes… and true to life portrayals of people and places, to implications of the power and prevalence of spiritual beliefs, mythological allegories, and alternative realities, the artists bring attention to diverse subjects significant to contemporary times.”
The opening reception takes place at the Gallery East on the Tri-C Eastern Campus Education Center, where the show is on view. At that time awards, with $1750 in cash prizes, will be presented to the four Juror’s award winners and a People’s Choice winner chosen by popular vote during the reception.
