Frank Wilcox (1887-1964) was part of a generation of Cleveland artists active in the first half of the 20th century, comprising what was called the Cleveland School, with many (such as Wilcox) attending what was then called the Cleveland School of Art, later the Cleveland institute of Art. Wilcox acquired a reputation not only as a noted watercolor artist, but also a teacher at the institute and a prolific author.
Starting this week, WOLFS Gallery in Beachwood will be presenting works from Wilcox’s estate, including a first look at his Western Collection, seldom seen paintings and sketches fueled by his trips to the American West starting in 1937. The show opens with a free, public reception on Friday April 11 and will be on view through June.
