Mulberry Creek Herb Farm, the family-owned organic herb farm in Huron, just opened for its 30th season on April 1. And this weekend, owners Mark and Karen Langen are inviting the community to celebrate with them with a “Naughty Barn Dance,” a square dance in their 100-year-old barn which regular patrons will be familiar with when it’s used for some of the vendors at its annual herb/crafts fair at the end of June.
The Naughty Lobstah food truck will be onsite from 11am to 7pm; you can also bring your own food to eat on the farm’s grounds, or buy some Mitchell’s ice cream from their fridge. Of course you’ll want to browse the sprawling retail greenhouse which, even though it’s still early in the season, is already packed with plants, including herbs, succulents and cacti, perennials, miniature “fairy” plants, and one of their specialties, scented geraniums. Be sure to stop at the wine tasting room in the back, run by the Langans’ son Ben, who returned to the family homestead last year to start his own business.
Square dancing takes place from 4-6:30pm, and while there’s no “official” charge for this free event, they’d appreciate a $5 cover from dancers to pay the professional square dance caller.
