Movement Artist Raphael Xavier Presents Multidisciplinary Piece “Skiff” @ Tri-C Metro

Sat 4/12 @ 7:30PM

Sun 4/13 @ 2PM

Raphael Xavier is a multi-talented artist, much of whose work is based in movement and dance, including break dancing, but also incorporating rap, comedy, visual imagery and words.

His latest work is the hour-long Skiff, in which he explores his diverse creative adventures drawing on the variety of disciples he embraces including as song lyrics, spoken word and original monologues. It’s described as “a unique piece that blends contemporary dance with breaking in an exploration of the aging body, race, privilege, and power while encouraging conversations of identity, legacy and lineage.” It uses Ernest Hemingway’s 1952 novella The Old Man and the Sea as a frame, a blending the original text with Xavier’s original spoken word.

The two performances at Tri-C Metro’s John P. Murphy Theatre, presented by DANCECleveland, will feature Xavier himself and a group of dancers that includes some Cleveland dancers. Get tickets here.
