How much Shostakovich can you handle? The Cleveland Chamber Music Society and the Cleveland Museum of Art are figuring you can handle five nights over a week and a half period. On five evening, they will be presenting the Israeli string ensemble, the Jerusalem Quartet in a five-night performance of Dmitri Shostakovich’s complete quartet cycle.
The four internationally celebrated musicians — violinists Alexander Pavlovsky and Sergei Bresler, violist Ori Kam and cellist Kyril Zlotnikov — will kick things off with quarters Nos. 1-3 on Monday April 21, followed on Tuesday April 22 by nos. 4-6 and on Wednesday April 23 by nos. 7-9. It will complete the fifteen-piece cycle on Tuesday April 29 and Wednesday April 30. Pianist/composer James Wilding will give a pre-concert lecture each night at 6:30.
