Twenty-eight-year-old Chinese classical pianist Zhu Wang, who now lives in New York City, is on an upward trajectory career-wise. He won last year’s New Orleans International Piano Competition and was a prizewinner in the 2024 Cleveland International Piano Competition. Since then, he’s been building a performance career with orchestra appearances, solo recitals and collaborations. And this week in Cleveland, he’ll be performing in two atypical, casual settings.
On Tuesday April 15, Piano Cleveland, CIPC’s parent organization, will present him in a free, informal concert in the Ames Family Atrium of the Cleveland Museum of Art. Then on Wednesday, he will perform at the Hofbräuhaus in Playhouse Square with Cleveland Play House actors Madalyn Baker and Nathan Nelson, doing a program of musical theater songs including from the 1964 classic Fiddler on the Roof, whose story about forced emigration reflects is sadly reflective of what’s going on today. Reservations are advised.
