Abattoir Gallery Group Show Focuses on Small Pieces

“Diptych in Blue” by Thiang UK

Fri 4/18 @ 6-8PM

The trend in art has been toward the monumental, with paintings, sculptures, installations and photographs taking on epic proportions. The next show presented by Abattoir’s auxiliary gallery, Abattoir at the Quarter, 2615 Detroit Avenue in Hingetown goes in the opposite direction.

Titled All Small, it features works by a dozen plus one regional and national artists, both established and emerging, all diminutively size. They range from Emil Robinson’s soft-focus scenes seen through windows; to Jen P. Harris’s colored pencil drawings packed with color, markings and shapes with no dimension even reaching one foot; to Shawn Powell’s vividly colored, hard-edge abstracts; to Thiang UK’s tiny oils, abstracts that seem derived from visuals of sky and landscapes. Other artists in the show include Emily Bartolone, Julia Callis, Eleanor Conover, R Kauff, Catherine Lentini, Jason Murphy; Emily Olszewski, Alex Vlasov and Natalie Petrosky.

The show opens Friday April 18, and will be on view through Saturday May 17.
