Flowers are embedded in our lives in so many ways, and have been throughout history. They’re in our gardens and we bring them into our homes. We surround ourselves with them at weddings, give them as signs of our condolences to funerals and send them to loved ones on special occasions. In the past, flowers had specific meanings and functioned as an emotional language and we still assign flowers to different months, something Cleveland artist Derek Hess has been doing as a series of striking prints.
And there will be work by more than 100 northeast Ohio artists turning the Yards Projects gallery in the Warehouse District into a veritable garden starting on Tuesday March 13 and running through April 26 — about the time garden outside start blooming in earnest. The works in the show, called the Cleveland Bouquet Exchibition, include paintings, prints, photos, fiber art, sculpture, neon and mixed media works by both well-known artists and unknown ones. In addition, the show will celebrate the memory of three area artists who passed away recently: James Messina March, Mary Deutschman, and Patricia ZInsmeister Parker.
The opening reception on Thursday March 13 is free and open to all. Get more information here.
