Spring Cabaret Concert Presents Works by American and Immigrant Composers

Sat 3/29 @ 4PM

Musical Upcoming Stars in the Classics (M.U.S.I.C) has a mission to showcase up-and-coming classical musicians on the verge of big careers, offering opportunities for them to work and get more exposure.

Its Spring Cabaret will feature young musicians from top conservatories in a concern that celebrates the contributions of both immigrant and American composers to chamber music. Among the composers whose work will be featured are Russian composer Igor Stravinsky who became an American citizen in 1945, Russian Sergei Rachmaninoff who left his native country during the Russian Revolution to move to New York and later Los Angeles and German composer Kurt Weill who fled Nazi Germany in 1933 and settled in New York. There’ll also be works by George Gershwin, son of Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe; American Samuel Barber; early 20th century composer Amy Beach, the first successful woman composer; and William Grant Still, one of the most successful African-American composers of the mid 20th century.

Performers include violinists Zachary Brandon, Michelle Bushkova and Maude Cloutier; pianists Alexander Kostritsa, Muyu Lu, Alexandre Marr and Jackson Naglick; cellist Brendon Phelps; clarinetist Jazmin Pascual; sopranos Catherina Carrington and Lisl Wangermann; and baritone Drew Russell.

It takes place at the Church of the Western Reserve, 30500 Fairmount Blvd in Pepper Pike. The concert will be followed by a reception to meet the artists. Get tickets here.
