Martha Redbone Roots Project Blends Soul, Gospel, Blues & Appalachian Folk Music

Sun 4/6 @ 7:30PM

Vocalist/songwriter Martha Redbone creates music stepped in blues, soul music, gospel, and traditional Appalachian folk music, with a dollop of Native American influences, derived from her personal background growing up in the south with some Native ancestry. She even connected that traditional mountain music to its English roots on her 2012 album The Garden of Love — Songs of William Blake, using the 18th/19th century British romantic poet’s lyrics to drill down into the music.

Redbone is currently touring as part of a quartet she calls the Martha Redbone Roots Project with redbone herself on vocals and percussion, her husband Aaron Whitby on piano, Charlie Burham on violin and Fred Cash Jr. on bass. They’ll be at Oberlin College’s Finney Chapel as part of its Artist Recital Series.
