Make a Lantern and Join the Towpath Trail Lantern Parade

Sat 3/8 @ 6:30PM

Events come and go, with old events fading away and new ones popping up on the calendar and taking hold. One of the latter is the Towpath Trail Lantern Parade, which debuted in 2022, a sort of post-pandemic celebration of community coming back together as well as the completion of the final leg of the Towpath Trail near Tremont.

Each year a group of artists creates fancy lanterns made from recycled materials and battery-powered lights, and community participants are invited to do the same, either on their own or in sponsored workshops (there’s a final one on Friday March 7 from 5-7pm at the Community Arts Center in the Pivot Center) and then join the group at Sokolowski’s Overlook to start the 1.6 mile walk, which ends up where it began.

This year’s artists whose work will lead the procession are Dina Hoeynck, Shannon Timura, Ross Bochnek, Jim Dotson, Jami Johnson, Belle Kolleth, Julie Reminick, Meaghan Reed, Connor Riva, Beth Lynne, and The Rabbit Hole Art Fanatics collaborative.

Registration is encouraged, but not required. Learn more at canalwaypartners.com/lantern-parade.
