Karamu Production Explores The Aftermath of Trauma

Fri 3/7-Sun 3/30

Harrison Davis Rivers’ play Weathering explores the aftermath of loss and the ensuing grief. In it, a grieving mother isa surrounded by family, friends and neighbors as she experiences laughter and tears, and spontaneous dance parties as she makes her way back into the world. We’re told that Weathering looks at how the women depicted, “including the mother’s mom, sister, friend, neighbor, and ‘church lady,’ share their stories of pregnancy, children, and loss, and offer different approaches to dealing with the mother’s grief.

The play is being presented this month by Karamu Theatre, directed by associate artistic director Nina Domingue. It suggests that the play is suitable for 15 and older, due to frank discussions of topics such as stillbirth, labor and sex.
